Reverse Logistics
Lend a Hand to the Future
With the increase in the world's population, its level of consumption also grows, and the destination of post-consumer packaging has become a relevant issue for companies.
Since 2012, Flora has participated in the post-consumer packaging reverse logistics program “Mãos Pro Futuro”, which aims to create opportunities and generate income for people who make a living from recycling. The initiative is coordinated by the Brazilian Association of the Personal Hygiene, Perfumery and Cosmetics Industry (ABIHPEC), in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Cleaning Product Industries (ABIPLA) and the Brazilian Association of Mass Pasta Industries (ABIMAPI).
The program seeks solutions for the proper disposal of post-consumer packaging and efforts to increase recovery rates for these materials.
In 2023, the Program achieved the result of 165,661 tons of post-consumer packaging recovered, equivalent to the recovery of 31.6% of the quantity of packaging placed on the market in 2022.
Currently, the Mãos Pro Futuro Program serves 197 cooperatives present in 149 municipalities and, in this way, unites actions that enable the recovery and recycling of post-consumer packaging, thus reducing the volume of materials that would be sent to landfills and, in parallel, creating opportunities to improve working conditions, quality of life and income for collectors of recyclable materials.
“Mãos Pro Futuro” Program has the following main objectives:
Collaborate with the improvement of the national scenario in relation to the correct destination of urban solid waste, helping to reduce the volume of recyclable materials that would be sent to landfills.
Enable the recycling of post-consumer packaging by expanding and improving collection, sorting, processing, valorization and marketing.
Develop actions aimed at supporting work and income generation programs that promote social inclusion, improvement of working conditions and quality of life for recyclable material collectors, developing integrated and sustainable programs.
Offer solid waste generators (all of society) an adequate option for managing their waste.
Offer recyclers and/or processing industries raw materials duly collected and processed.
AD Circular Program
In order to expand the recycling of its waste, Flora joined, in 2021, the Circular Program, an initiative by Avery Dennison in collaboration with Boomera, which aims to ensure the recycling of waste generated by the use of self-adhesive labels (liner and skeleton) and its transformation in new materials.
88% of the waste generated in the chain is paper liner, PET liner or film skeleton.
This initiative was successful in providing a solution for the recycling of items with low recyclability of three materials (paper liner, PET liner and skeleton film).
